Use Your Stash Series: Stencil Projects with Video Tutorials

Cards and Projects with Stencils and Video Tutorials

Stencil Inspiration

Hello crafty friends! Today I have a post that explores stencils by gathering together a series of projects and videos. I love to be able to see the same supply used on multiple projects so I can get inspired to pull out that bit of craft stash and get creative. If you want to keep it simple just go right to my YouTube Stencil Playlist or scroll down and pick out just the cards you want to see. You can subscribe to my Jess Crafts YouTube channel to see more projects and at the bottom I will include links to some of my favorite stencils and stencil essentials.

Stencils with Embossing Paste

Tip: Use Distress Ink refills to tint the embossing paste

Tip: Save money by using spackle instead of traditional embossing paste

Tip: You can add embossing powder right over embossing paste and heat set it.

Stencils with Distress Ink

Tip: Use a large stencil to create a background or draw attention to your focal point.

Tip: You can soften the look of a card with vellum.

Tip: Use an ombre to add interest to a flat design.

Tip: You can mask off your images and then layer on a stencil to create a background for your card.

Stencils Made from Dies

Tip: You can group small dies to create an overall pattern for the stencil.

Chinese or Lunar New Year Card by Jess Moyer featuring Jess Crafts Sheep Digital Stamp and Verve Light My World Stamps

Hello crafty friends! Today I have a Chinese New Year card that features my new Sheep digital stamp. You can find this stamp at my Jess Crafts Etsy shop. It will be the year of the sheep/goat and my friend specifically requested a sheep not a goat for her card. Check out the video for more on how I created this card including the masking and coloring the sheep with texture.

Tips from this card/video:
Add some coloring under areas where you will add Stickles to create a more seamless look
If you don't have the right color cardstock use your markers or ink to create it.

Newton's Nook Inky Paws #17 Use a Heart Shape

Hello crafty friends! Today I have a card and video for the Newton's Nook Designs Inky Paws challenge. It is a simple challenge this time: Use a heart shape. This is awesome because you can make a Valentine or you can just use hearts on any other project type just be sure to use you Newton's Nook stamps or their digital freebies. Check out the video for more on how I made this card.

Tips from this card/video:
When stamping a clean and simple card take your time and apply even pressure. Small mistakes are more noticeable in this style.
Get a perfectly even heart template by folding the paper in half and drawing only half a heart along the fold.

Shaker Card and Tutorial featuring Gerda Steiner Designs

Hello crafty friends! Today I have a video and a shaker card featuring Gerda Steiner Designs Kitten in Heart digital stamp. In the video I give step by step directions about how to do the inking, coloring, and of course making the shaker. This is actually my first successful shaker but hopefully it will still be helpful to others.

Tips from this card/video:
Use fun foam instead of foam tape to seal the shaker especially when you have an unusual opening
The right adhesive is a must. Liquid adhesive is great for foam but not acetate.
